HARTFORD — Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Hartford. Police say Stephen Payne, 26, of Hartford was shot and killed Wednesday night.

At around 9:15 p.m. ShotSpotter, a gunfire surveillance system, detected shots at 45 Alan Green Way, usually not a high crime section of the city, police said. Thursday morning, police said that Payne lived in an apartment at that address.

Hartford Police Deputy Chief Brian Foley said Payne was found on a second floor and pronounced dead.

Foley said 5 or 6 total shells were recovered, and that there was blood in the rear entrance of the building. Shell casings and blood were found both inside and outside the rear of the building. No suspects nor weapons were recovered.

“ShotSpotter helps us with that,” said Foley. “ShotSpotter can give us a forensic breakdown. ShotSpotter tells us there was three shots outside. We have a lot more casings than that at this point.”

Major Crimes Detectives are still investigating. No word on any suspects.
