CONCORD, N.H. — A high school principal who fought cancer with the generosity of her students is now helping one of the teens through a similar fight.
Two days after 18-year-old Aurora Brown learned she had kidney cancer this fall, she reached out to former principal, Courtney Vashaw, who was diagnosed last spring with a rare, aggressive form of soft tissue cancer. Brown and other seniors at Profile Junior-Senior High School in Bethlehem received national attention when they donated $8,000 to Vashaw that they raised for a class trip.
Vashaw, who was declared cancer-free last week, helped Brown work through the logistics of her treatment and encouraged Brown’s former classmates to raise money for her. They and others came through with more than $4,000 to help Brown with medical expenses and college tuition.
