WETHERSFIELD — A new report shows Connecticut lost 1,400 jobs in June, nearly all coming from local government.

The Department of Labor’s monthly report, released Thursday, indicates the state’s June 3.7% unemployment rate is down one-tenth of a percent compared to May’s figure.

Andy Condon, director of the agency’s Office of Research, says the job losses were driven primarily by “a large loss in government employment.” But he says Connecticut must wait until August to see if this drop was an anomaly, noting changes in school calendars and the timing of summer employment can make it difficult to gauge seasonal adjustments in local government jobless numbers.

Condon notes that private sector employment grew by 800 jobs.

Thursday’s report also revises an initially reported loss of 1,500 jobs in May to 1,900 jobs.
