WEST HARTFORD--Police continue to search for the man who left a senior citizen badly battered and bruised.
It started as a burglary at this home, which slightly set back from Bloomfield Avenue, on Thursday afternoon. Police said the victim, in his late 70s, heard a noise on the second floor of his home. Thinking it was his cat knocking something over, he went to investigate.
The suspect, who was heading down the stairs, actually brushed past the victim. Instead of letting the suspect go, the victim followed him out to the driveway area and began taking cell phone photos of the suspect and his car. That's when the suspect beat the homeowner with what's believed to be a rock or a brick, and then left the victim semi-conscious or unconscious.
"The phone went with the suspect, we don't have the phone," Lt. Ted Stoneburner said. "We don't want you to get injured over property, property is replaceable, your life is not replaceable."
Stoneburner went on to say that the victim should have let the suspect go, and then called in the description of the car, which was a newer, blue-ish green van or SUV with yellow and black New York plates.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s or 40s, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, with a stocky build.
