HARTFORD — Democratic State Representative Liz Linehan says she and her children were threatened because of her stance on vaccines.
Linehan is the co-chair of the Committee on Children, and supports mandatory childhood vaccinations.
On Tuesday, Linehan told FOX61 that anti-vaccine activists were taking photos of her children.
On Wednesday, she said she was threatened online, quoting a Tweet in which a user called her children “satan spawn”. She says state capitol police are now involved.
The Twitter post has since been removed and the poster’s account has been deleted. The person’s posts and retweets featured concerns that vaccines could harm children.
Linehan supports ending religious exemptions from vaccinations for public school students. On Tuesday, the legislature’s Education Committee advanced legislation that alerts school nurses and others that they won’t be fired for refusing to approve such exemptions.
As of mid-April, Connecticut’s Department of Public Health had confirmed three cases of measles for 2019. Much larger outbreaks, including in nearby Rockland County, N.Y.
