The city might have a wicked and haunted past, but we find some comfort in Salem, Mass., in the form of the cuisine.
Karen Scalia offers a taste of the “Witch City” that’s a bit more palatable. Just over a year ago she began the Salem Food Tours.
“It’s an afternoon tour, kind of like a roaming dinner party,” Scalia said. “We do taste tests at various shops and restaurants.”
Expect to make several stops from outlets like Salem Spice, a boutique that celebrates the city’s famous spice trade, to fresh seafood restaurants like Finz Seafood and Grill, the tour covers both the caloric and the historic.
“It’s about going to these local shops and restaurants. They are about local sourcing,” Scalia said. “This is a great and unique way to get to know the town.”
The Salem Food Tour runs year-round except major holidays. The tour takes about 31/2 hours and costs $54. The tours are designed for adults, but families can book private tours, which Scalia welcomes. For more information, click here to visit the Salem Food Tours website.
