NEW BRITAIN -- An act of vandalism at a New Britain home famous for its Christmas decorations is not putting a damper on the homeowner's holiday cheer.
Various Santa Claus statues and ornaments were smashed outside Rita Giancola's Lexington Street home where they have been a mainstay for the past 37 years. Her home is open to the public for tours.
Rita's family has helped the 90-year-old decorate in recent years and helped fix the broken items in her yard.
She says the vandalism won't stop her from continuing to spread Christmas spirit.
There is no admission charge, but guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food item as their entry fee. The donated items will go to the Salvation Army, St. Mark's Church, and other good causes.
Rita's Christmas house will still be open December 18-22 from 6-8 p.m.
