WATERBURY – A Waterbury police officer was fired after he was linked to a sex trafficking operation by the Internal Affairs Division of the Waterbury Police Department.
Former officer Jermaine Dunbar, an eight-year veteran patrolman, was placed on administrative leave following an April 3, 2015 incident in Watertown that involved two suspects being arrested for various offenses including narcotics, illegal weapons possession, promoting prostitution, and trafficking persons. DCF filed a complaint with he Watertown Police Department of Dunbar’s role.
Dunbar was not arrested but fired on Friday for breaking several department rules including improper associations, truthfulness, conduct unbecoming to an officer, neglect of duty and insubordination.
The Waterbury Police Department issued the following statement:
Members of the Waterbury Police Department are held to the highest standards and are expected to conduct themselves at all times, both on and off duty, in a manner that reflects most favorably on the police department. The manner in which former Officer Dunbar has conducted himself in this situation, reflects extremely negatively upon the Waterbury Police Department and is inappropriate conduct for any law enforcement officer. Based upon the internal affairs investigation and the subsequent policy violations, former Officer Dunbar was terminated.
