Teen collects stickers to remember the World Cup | FOX61 Student News

Sticker albums have been a long-standing World Cup tradition for decades and help keep the memories of the players and games alive.

Though the 2022 World Cup may be over, the memories and experiences that came from it will last forever. 

Fifteen-year-old Josh Cuevas Onton is a lifelong soccer fan, and he and many others like him around the world have a unique way of preserving those memories that one might not have known about; with stickers. 

Sticker albums have been a long-standing World Cup tradition for decades and help keep the memories of the players and games alive years after the tournament is over.

Avid sticker collector Robert Briones reminisces on his childhood experience, “I grew up south of Chile, everybody had an album, it was a competition…it was Argentina 1978, the biggest player Mayu Campus, and everyone wanted to have his sticker.” 

The one thing that is for certain about these stickers is that they help shed light on the cultural importance of the World Cup for billions of people in the US and around the world.

The FOX 61 Student News program empowers Connecticut middle and high school students to explore the world of multi-media journalism by giving them the opportunity to capture, edit and publish original content under the guidance of industry professionals.

Each student produced and hosted segment will showcase a local story or event, highlighting all that is great about our state. Segments will be featured on-air during Friday's Morning News at 7:25 a.m., 10 p.m. news and during the FOX61 Morning News on Saturday at 7 a.m., on our Facebook page and right here on FOX61.com!
