SCOTLAND, Connecticut — Two people were injured in a crash in Scotland Tuesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to a serious crash in the 300 block of Huntington Road in Scotland just before 8 p.m. in the rural Windham County town.

Two Life Star helicopters were dispatched to transport the injured parties.

Former UConn Fire Captain Dana Barrow Jr was seriously injured. He was also involved in the 2016 incident on the UConncampus in which a West Hartford student, Jaffny Pally, was killed when a UConn fire truck struck her on campus.

UConn spokesperson Stephanie Reitz said, "Dana has dedicated himself personally and professionally to public service throughout his life, and is widely known for his huge heart and his kindness, sincerity and work ethic. His UConn family joins his many other friends and family throughout eastern Connecticut in wishing him a full and speedy recovery."

State police said one car crossed into the other car's lane.

Melissa Carducci-Brooks, 40, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, failure to maintain insurance.
