Firefighters were called to the house on Lake Road just before 2 a.m.
They found the home 90% involved when they arrived, and could only pour water on it from the outside. With no hydrants in the area, water supply was a challenge.
FOX61's Gaby Molina was first on the scene. She says homes along the road are built close together, and firefighters concentrated on keeping the fire from spreading. A neighboring home did sustain significant damage to its siding, but no interior damage.
Luckily, no one was home at either house, and no one was hurt. But the original house, #451, was completely destroyed.
Mutual aid was called in from Southwick, MA and Granby. Firefighters were on scene for over four hours.
The Suffield Fire Marshal is investigating the cause, assisted by the State Fire Marshal's Office.
