Hartford Police identify victim in deadly motorcycle crash

Police say the crash happened in the area of Airport Road and I-91/RT5-15S on-ramp.

HARTFORD, Conn — Police have identified the victim in the deadly motorcycle crash Monday night. 

According to police, the crash happened between a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer in the area of Airport Road and I-91/RT5-15S on-ramp. 

Elisha Swanson-Asiam, 21, died in the crash. 

Swanson's uncle Joe Toner, business manager from the Ironworkers Local 15, said his nephew was "a phenomenal kid." Toner said. He said Swanson was an Enfield High graduate and currently was a 4th year apprentice at the union. Swanson was set to graduate and was coming home from school when accident happened.

Police said, "Preliminary investigation indicates speed from the motorcycle as a contributing factor to the collision. Full reconstruction of the traffic collision is being conducted by the Hartford Police Crime Scene Division."

Airport Road was shut down from Locust Street to Brainard Road. I-91 southbound off-ramp was shut down and Crime Scene personnel are responding to the scene.
