MERIDEN, Conn. — A crash involving several vehicles Saturday between exits 17 and 18 in Interstate 91 left one man dead and several people, including three children, with injuries Saturday.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m. About five hours later, just after 8 p.m., State Police said the high had finally reopened.

Police said as traffic slowed, a Chevy Suburban hit a Ford Fusion driven by Jarquis Johnson, 30, of Middletown. The Suburban rolled over on the right shoulder of the highway. Johnson's vehicle hit the car in front of it, which in turn continued a chain reaction that involved six vehicles.

Johnson died of his injuries at the scene. Seven others were injured including three children.

Traffic was backed up for about 2 miles to exit 20.
