CT Bucket List: CT Aerial Yoga in Hartford

“The second I tried it I was like hooked,” said Erin Sexton. “It kind of got me further into my regular yoga practice, so the two together are just great.”

HARTFORD, Conn. — From yoga on the floor to yoga in the air! On Wednesday FOX61’s Margaux Farrell and Keith McGilvery tried CT Aerial Yoga.

“It’s playful, it’s fun, it’s different, it’s novel,“ said Jayne Dean, the owner of CT Aerial Yoga in Hartford. “It is one of the major attractions.”

We are talking about aerial yoga, and aerial arts, a space Dean opened up back in 2013 as a way to expand traditional yoga.

“Some of the floor poses are a little bit easier to do in a hammock, and then we transfer all that knowledge,” said Dean.

Now, you don’t have to be worried when you see things the ropes, the silk wraps, or the hoop!

“They get to be kids again,” said Dean. “We get to be free, we get to just, follow our body how it wants to move.”

“The second I tried it I was like hooked,” said Erin Sexton. “It kind of got me further into my regular yoga practice, so the two together are just great.”

Sexton is a kindergarten teacher when she’s not on the mat, and already implements postures and breath work into her class, and she hopes to bring aerial yoga to kids one day.

“Well, we give them some calming strategies,” said Sexton. “Also, just having fun, so working on that social-emotional learning, and managing your emotions, all the things that we teach at school.”

Right now, CT Aerial Yoga offers classes for those 16 and up, the one-hour class will cost you $25 for aerial yoga, or $30 for aerial arts.

“Everyone has to start somewhere,” said Jessa Audet from CT Aerial Yoga. “So, it’s very accessible for beginners we just start small and the sky is the limit.”

The sky is the limit, and the goal here is to come together after having spent so much time spent apart.

“Practice together, doing something that is so uplighting, and also good for the mind-body connection,” said Dean.
