CT Bucket List: The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford

The most popular museum spot with kids is The Cabinet of Art and Curiosity where you’ll find narwhal tusks, geodes, ostrich eggs, and bugs from around the world!

HARTFORD, Conn — This morning our Fox 61 Bucket List Tour headed for the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. Debbie Gaudet has been welcoming visitors to The Wadsworth for more than 30 years.

Gaudet says exploring the roughly 60,000 square foot space can be especially soothing as folks adjust to the stresses of the pandemic.

“I hope that they come in and are able to find solace here in the museum, Spend time with the works of art, be inspired,” says Gaudet.

That inspiration spans some 5,000 years and a variety of styles.

“This art museum is the oldest art museum in America and it has prided itself on giving everyone access to artistic experiences from all over the world,” says CEO, Tom Loughman.

The most popular museum spot with kids is The Cabinet of Art and Curiosity where you’ll find narwhal tusks, geodes, ostrich eggs, bugs, and butterflies from around the world.

“We know that visiting an art museum is so good for child development, It is also good for critical thinking,” says Loughman.

Loughman says his team is taking steps to fend off the virus when guests visit by appointment Thursday to Sunday.

“Everyone who comes here is masked, everyone’s temperature is taken. We have tackled the question of contact tracing and we are doing everything we can to keep people safe,” he says.

If you want to visit Wadsworth, the good news is admission is free through January 31! Learn more here.
