Stony Creek Brewery greets guests by car or boat: Daytrippers

Celebrating craft beer and seasonal cheer with outdoor firepits and a new apple brew.

BRANFORD, Conn. — Stony Creek Brewery, which opened in 2015, is well into its fall season. And while its beer is beloved by a growing number of followers, the 30,000-square-foot space is becoming a favorite stop for families to visit.

Ed Crowley, Jr, the owner of Stony Creek, said part of the business model is that they are geographically blessed; the brewery sits right on the Branford River and is accessible by both car and by boat.

“You can’t beat it,” said Crowley, “We’re right on the Branford River which leads into the Long Island Sound, and we have a beautiful tap room built on the waterfront.”

The large deck area at Stony Creek is equipped with fire pits in the fall and winter months, plus Adirondack chairs and picnic tables.

“You come here, it’s on the water, you see the views and the boats going by, we’re family-friendly, it’s hard to beat,” said Dan Shannon, the CEO at Stony Creek.

While families have been flocking to Stony Creek during the daylight hours, the brewery still specializes in craft beer, enjoyed day and night.

For the fall season, they’ve come up with a variety called “Crum”.

“Crum is our version of an apple crumble," Crowley said. "It’s an amber ale with cinnamon, fresh apple cider, this beer screams fall, it’s perfect for the season.”

Shannon added that they’ve created a vibe at Stony Creek which continues into the holiday season.

“We really are all about community, the craft business is about community and just having people come here from all over the Northeast and all over Connecticut to enjoy this location," Shannon said, and added, “We’re really blessed that we’re a part of this community.”
