Pet Parasite Forecast: Anaplasmosis

Similar to Lyme disease, anaplasmosis is a disease caused by bacteria transmitted by ticks.

HARTFORD, Conn. — We all want to keep our furry friends healthy – especially during a week that is dedicated to them! Did you know this is National Dog Week?

In addition to spending time with my own dogs, Luna and Eva, I think a great way to celebrate is to check out our Pet Parasite Forecast, so we can all stay informed on the local anaplasmosis trends.

Similar to Lyme disease, anaplasmosis is a disease caused by bacteria transmitted by ticks. In Connecticut, the same tick that spreads Lyme disease spread this disease, as well. In fact, our Pet Parasite Forecast map is showing that the entire state has a high forecasted infection rate so be careful when you’re out and about with your pup this week.

If they are bitten by a tick carrying anaplasmosis, you will often see symptoms like joint pain, fever, lethargy bruising, nose bleeds, vomiting and diarrhea, and lack of appetite.

Some pets will have no symptoms or only minor symptoms, so it’s important to talk to your vet about the best parasite preventative for them.
