Pet Parasite Forecast: Ehrlichiosis

Make sure to keep your pet safe and healthy this season from ticks and other parasites.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Here’s the third week of our Pet Parasite Forecast, which will focus on a tick-borne disease called Ehrlichiosis.

Ehrlichiosis is a disease that develops in dogs after being bitten by an infected tick – normally, the Brown Dog Tick or the American Dog Tick. Although Ehrlichiosis is most widespread in the southern United States, the Brown Dog Tick can be found throughout the entire United States and even into Canada.

Zooming into Connecticut, we’re seeing the highest rates in Tolland County, with all of Connecticut higher than the historical average.

Stay tuned as we continue to take a closer look at the local Ehrlichiosis data this week and be sure to talk to your vet about which parasite preventive is best for your pup.
