ORANGE, Conn — A 14-year-old from Waterbury was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Route 34 in Orange early Monday morning, officials said.
The crash happened around 4 a.m. and involved a tractor-trailer and a stolen black BMW 328xi. According to officials, the truck was driving westbound on Route 34 when it entered the intersection with Orange Center Road with a green light and crashed with the BMW.
The tractor-trailer then went off the road and hit a telephone pole and a tree.
On Tuesday, police said the BMW had been stolen minutes before the crash. The driver got out of the car and presumably got into a white sedan that was in the area at the time.
The passenger of the BMW, a 14-year-old from Waterbury, was ejected from the car and died at the scene. The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The teen was identified Wednesday as Jasser Ciprian.
What led up to the crash is still under investigation.
