A Slice of Boston’s Little Italy, One Slice At A Time

On the pyramid of pizza prominence, cities like New York, New Haven and Chicago stand tall, but Boston wants in on the action. That's where Martin Elliot comes in.

Elliot began Boston Pizza Tours three years ago and has literally walked miles to showcase all the pizza pizzazz that Boston's North End has.

"It's a history tour with pizza or a pizza tour with history, a little of both," Elliot said.

Searching for the city's best slice comes with a large helping of Boston's storied past: guests walk along the famed Freedom Trail and make stops at landmarks like Paul Revere's home and the Old North Church.

If you are enriched by the history,  you will be energized by the pizza--the tour included stops at outstanding pie producers like Pushcart Pizzeria, Pizzeria Regina and Ernesto's--a shop that offers 26 different varieties of slices.

"New Haven has their pizza, of course Chicago has deep dish, Boston has no true style of pizza but that's a good thing because you get a little of everything here in Boston," Elliot said.

"A little walking, a little history, and great pizza," said Frank Norton, who was visiting the tour from nearby Revere, Massachusetts.

"The food was excellent and you got to work off your pizza by doing some walking," said Joan Asher, from Stamford.

Boston Pizza Tours runs every day April through November. It leaves from Hanover Street in the North End. December through March tours run on weekends only. Tours cost $39 per person and last about two hours.
