If you’re an avid New Girl fan, you were thrilled when Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) finally got together in Season 2, totally bummed out when they split up at the end of Season 3, and are eagerly anticipating the new and potentially weird territory of Season 4, now that they are separated and still living together.
Thanks to the below sneak peek of the upcoming Season 4, premiering Tuesday, September 16th at 9pm on FoxCT, we now have a good idea of what to expect. The Season 4 premiere will focus on the last wedding of the year, featuring guest star Jessica Biel as Kat, “the world’s hottest scientist”, who competes with Jess for a guy’s attention, while the other roommates all fight to be the first to become a wedding hook-up.
“Nick and Jess sort of realized that they’re not as compatible as they might have thought,” Deschanel explains of last season’s breakup.
“It’s opening up a whole new area of stories with them being exes, which I think is like a really interesting, fun, new territory,” Liz Meriwether, the series creator, says, discussing the potential dynamic of the former couple. Meriwether, who wrote the screenplay for the 2011 romantic comedy film No Strings Attached, is part of “The Fempire”, a group of female screenwriters that include Dana Fox (What Happens in Vegas), Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body), and Lorene Scafaria (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist).
