EAST HAMPTON, Conn. — An old industrial building has a new buzz off Summit Street in East Hampton. For the past year, the electro bells and whistles of pinball machines and video arcade games have been emanating from “The Pinshack”.
Bryan Joy, an electrical engineer by trade made a pandemic pivot and put all the pinball machines and games he owns in one place. They now line the floors of The Pinshack where visitors can play those retro arcade classics.
“I had a number of pinball and arcade machines, I had them in bars and then Covid hit and I had to pull them all out and I had no idea where to put them,” Joy said. “That’s what kind of spawned the arcade.”
Joy also said he stays busy servicing pinball and arcade machines around the area.
“My electronics background definitely helps,” he said. “I rent out to a lot of private parties birthday parties, even corporate events.”
Above all, the experience of playing retro games is the biggest plus.
“I love pinball and arcade games because it brings people out and about and the whole family can have a really good time.," said frequent customer Sean Griffin, from East Haddam
"It’s visual, it’s fun, it’s in front of you – nobody is on their phone phones here. Everyone is interested in the games and parents are interacting with their kids, it’s neat to see," Joy said.
The Pinshack is currently open Thursday through Sunday and it costs $15 per person for unlimited gameplay. To find out more, click here.
