Dog thrown from car in Texas rescued by Connecticut couple

Stanley was thrown out of the car when he was only three months old which led to one of his legs being amputated.

HARTFORD, Conn. — A dog was close to being euthanized after its original owner threw him out of a car in Texas, but he was granted a second chance at life after being rescued by a Connecticut couple.

At a quick glance, Stanley looked like your average, lovable family dog, but when he turned to the side, you quickly noticed one of his back legs was missing.

"He’s pretty stubborn but probably that’s what helped him survive," said Melissa Capone of Hamden.

At only three months old, Stanley was left to die on the side of a road in Texas.

"He had been thrown from the car as a puppy and the car behind him hit him," added Capone.

The driver who accidentally hit Stanley immediately brought him to a local rescue which led to multiple visits to the hospital.

His back left leg had to be amputated and his front left leg was broken.

Stanley was going to be euthanized until someone in Texas reached out to the founder of Where the Love Is, a rescue organization in Connecticut.

Foster parents, Michael and Melissa Capone welcomed Stanley into their home as he recovered.

"We got to offer him things he’s never experienced before – you take for granted. Never even thought that coming into our home would be the first home he ever had," said Michael Capone.

Taking time off from work, the Capone's even made their home handicap accessible.

"We built ramps, we had a whole – it looked like a circus out here," added Michael Capone.

An adopter was ready to take Stanley in once he was nursed back to health, but it never worked out.

The Capones kept looking for other adopters, only to realize they wanted to keep Stanley themselves.

"It was just an excuse to keep him, you know what I’m saying? Maybe we knew we didn’t want to give him up," added Michael Capone.

In August of last year, Stanley was officially adopted into the Capone Family, a decision they said they will never forget.

"He is spunky," added Michael Capone.
