Man dies after being hit by car on I-84 west in Hartford: State police

The driver of the Honda stopped in the left lane after the crash and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, state police said.

HARTFORD, Conn. — A man died after being hit by a car on Interstate 84 west in Hartford Saturday night, Connecticut State Police said.

Based on preliminary information, state police said they determined that at 8:14 p.m., a Honda Pilot EXL was traveling along the highway in the left lane of two, west of the entrance ramp from Interstate 91 south.

According to state police, Raphael Rodriguez, 32, was in the left lane, directly in front of the Honda, and was hit, resulting in "serious, life-threatening injuries."

Rodriguez was taken to the hospital where state police said he died.

The cause and events leading up to the crash are currently unknown.

I-84 west was closed Saturday evening between exits 50 and 48 due to the crash, but it appears to be reopened as of Sunday morning.
