HARTFORD, Conn. — Moments after city residents rang in 2024 at First Night Hartford, Arunan Arulampalam was sworn in as the capital city's newest mayor.
Arulampalam was officially sworn in at the Soldiers and Sailors Arch in Bushnell Park just after midnight Monday. His wife, Rev. Liza Arulampalam, administered the oath.
The transition into office started the last week of December, as outgoing mayor Luke Bronin passed over his reports to Arulampalam Friday. Bronin took office in 2016 and served as mayor for two terms.
Arulampalam is now the 68th mayor of Hartford.
