Newington man charged in Southington crime spree

Southington police said the crimes included stealing catalytic converters, wheels, ATVs, and other commercial burglaries.

SOUTHINGTON, Conn. — A Newington man is facing a litany of charges connected to a Southington crime spree, police said.

Officials said 21-year-old Ethan Nieves was taken into custody on Monday at New Britain court.

According to police, Nieves had been using a gray 2023 Honda Odyssey, stolen out of Farmington, since March 2023 to commit various crimes in Southington and throughout the state.

Southington police said the crimes included stealing catalytic converters, wheels, ATVs, and other commercial burglaries.

Police said that after several reports in Southington of the catalytic converter and wheel thefts dating back to early 2023, investigators began to track down leads and collaborate with other law enforcement. Through their investigation, police concluded that Nieves was the one likely in possession of the stolen Honda Odyssey and that he was believed to be a ring leader behind much of the statewide criminal activity.
