Older man forcefully thrown to ground in unsuccessful Hamden carjacking

Police arrested a 15-year-old and are still looking for two additional subjects who fled the scene.

HAMDEN, Conn. — Three male suspects in Hamden threw an older person to the ground in a forceful manner on Thursday morning while attempting to steal his vehicle, according to Hamden police. He sustained minor injuries as a result.

Hamden police said they responded to the area of Alltown Fresh, a convenience store and gas station on Dixwell Avenue, after receiving a report of a carjacking in progress.

One of the suspects entered the vehicle and attempted to start it, according to police, who said the suspect was unsuccessful, as the keys were with the victim. Police added that good Samaritans scared away the three suspects, who fled the scene on foot just before police officers arrived at Alltown Fresh.

According to police, Sgt. Derick Manning was first to arrive on scene, as he was in the area on a routine patrol, and members of the public pointed out to him one of the suspects running on Weybosset Street.

Manning took a 15-year-old male into custody, police said.

The other two suspects who fled on foot were described as young males; one was wearing all black clothing while the other was wearing a grey sweatshirt and shorts, according to police.

Even after multiple Hamden police officers searched the area for the other two suspects, and a K-9 track was performed, police said they were unable to locate the individuals.
