BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A New Haven man was sentenced on Wednesday to five years in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release, for a drug trafficking and firearm possession offense, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Carlyle Henry, 39, was sentenced by a U.S. district judge in Bridgeport. Court documents and statements made in court note that shortly before midnight on Oct. 12, 2022, Henry crashed his vehicle into a retaining wall on the Yale University campus, prosecutors said.

When searching Carlyle, Yale police found a loaded 9-millimeter handgun and a bag “containing distribution quantities of cocaine,” packaged heroin and fentanyl, and counterfeit pills containing fentanyl, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors note that Henry’s criminal history includes “state convictions for firearms possession and narcotics distribution offenses, and a federal narcotics conviction in 2006 for which he received a sentence of 50 months imprisonment.”

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Yale Police Department and was prosecuted through Project Safe Neighborhoods, “the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts,” according to prosecutors.
