NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A teen has died in an SUV crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 91 South in New Haven late Wednesday night, according to state police.

State police were called to I-91 South near Exit 7 around 10 p.m.

The flatbed tractor-trailer and a Jeep Cherokee were traveling south when the Jeep collided with the truck after moving from the right lane to the right-center lane. State police said the Jeep then spun out and rolled over.

The Jeep passenger, identified as 17-year-old Isabela Osler of Branford, later died at the hospital. The Jeep's driver, also 17, was hospitalized with serious injuries, troopers said.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured, state police said.

At the time of the crash, there was a construction cone pattern tapering the right lane into the right-center lane for a DOT project, according to state police.

Osler was a senior at Branford High School, according to school officials.

"Isabela's caring and compassionate presence will be greatly missed by all those close to her. Please join me in extending sympathy and condolences to Isabela's family," Branford Public Schools said in a message to families and staff Thursday.

Branford High School will have grief counseling services for students, staff and families Thursday and Friday.

The investigation into the crash remains active, and anyone with information or dash cam footage of the crash is asked to contact state police Trooper Daniel McCue via email at daniel.mccue@ct.gov
