WALLINGFORD, Conn. — A Wallingford man died after the van he was driving was going the wrong way, went off the road and rolled over, nearly hitting a home near Church Street (Route 68).

Police were called to the area of Church Street and Hope Hill Road around 6:45 p.m. Monday. A preliminary investigation revealed a Ford Econoline van was traveling east on the westbound lane of Church Street.

The van then went off the roadway, hitting a sign and snapping a utility pole at the intersection of Church and New Place streets.

The van rolled over on the United Methodist Church property and onto the yard of a home on Church Street. The van stopped nearly two feet away from the home, police said.
