Teen killed in Waterbury shooting: Police

Officers received a report on Sunday evening about an 18-year-old male with a gunshot wound who was dropped off at the emergency room at Saint Mary's Hospital.

WATERBURY, Conn. — A Waterbury teen is dead after he was shot on Sunday, police said.

Waterbury officers got a report around 7:30 p.m. Sunday that stated 18-year-old Joseph Zavala was dropped off at the emergency room at Saint Mary's Hospital in the city. 

According to officials, Zavala was found seriously injured with a gunshot wound. He was originally listed in critical condition before dying from his injuries, police said.

Officials said that during their preliminary investigation, they learned that the shooting took place in the area of North Main Street at Kingsbury Street. The events leading up to the shooting are currently unknown, as well as how many suspects were involved.
