NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. — A woman was forced to jump from a moving vehicle after allegedly being attacked by a man in North Branford on Tuesday morning. That man has now been charged.

North Branford police said that officers responded at 7:45 a.m. to an incident that led to the arrest of Michael Daniels, 52, of New Haven. Daniels is facing charges related to reckless endangerment and engaging in a pursuit.

The incident started when Corporal Thomas Pacelli, stationed at Doody's Totoket Inn saw what he believed to be an altercation inside a moving vehicle. Pacelli believed a woman was pushed or ejected out of the vehicle while it was still driving.

He tried to initiate a traffic stop by activating his emergency lights and siren. However, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Daniels chose to lead Pacelli on a pursuit.

Sergeant Henry Browne was close to the scene and found the victim. The pursuit continued from Foxon Rd. to Rt. 139, North Branford, School Ground Rd., Leetes Island Rd., and finally onto I-95 North, where Daniels complied by coming to a stop.

Daniels was taken into custody without further incident.

Investigations revealed that Daniels and the victim had met in New Haven and were both using crack cocaine. The situation escalated when Daniels began driving recklessly, claiming that the victim was wearing a GPS monitor.

In an attempt to locate the device, Daniels reportedly started tearing the victim's clothing. The victim then jumped out of the moving vehicle.

Following his arrest, Daniels complained of chest pain. On-scene officers requested an ambulance to transport him to a hospital.
