The driver of an ambulance stopped to get gas at a station off of exit 39 on Route 8, near the Route 6 intersection. Around 2:45 p.m. while pumping the gas, he noticed the ambulance van was starting to smoke.
The driver pulled away from the gas pumps and near the Route 8 off-ramp, at which point the van burst into flames.
Route 8 was closed for a short period of time as firefighters worked, but the fire was quickly put out.
No one was hurt during the incident. There weren’t any patients in the van at the time of the incident.
A few wires and poles received property damage.
