WINDSOR LOCKS — Connecticut cities and towns have until Friday afternoon to submit their proposals in the hopes of being home to the state’s new tribal casino.

The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes have been collecting the proposals for about a month. The deadline is 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

The goal is for this new casino is to keep gamblers in Connecticut and to compete with the new MGM casino being built in Springfield, Massachusetts.

East Hartford and East Windsor have been planning on submitting proposals.

In Enfield, according to the Hartford Courant, the managers at the Enfield Square mall plan to decide Friday morning if they’d like to submit their proposal. Many Enfield residents have expressed their disinterest in the plan, including the mayor who has stated he can’t support it.

The Connecticut Airport Authority also plans to submit a bid with plans to build the new casino at Bradley International Airport. This is despite the Windsor Locks Board of Selectmen rejecting the project two weeks ago.

The tribes plan to make a decision in mid-December and hope to open the new casino by 2018.
