Of the 16 which applied, the state selected only 4 medical marijuana grow facilities.

Joseph Palmieri was one of the applicants who didn’t make the cut. Palmieri planned to grow medical marijuana hydroponically in shipping containers which he calls pods. Palmieri wanted to start with 12 pods, with much more room to grow in his 85,000 square foot warehouse in Bridgeport.

Despite his application rejection, Palmieri still expected to get a license so that one day he can grow cannabis in Connecticut.

“With the expansion of the industry, I think with the discoveries they’re coming out with for medical marijuana in the state that this is going to be a very big industry,” Palmieri said.

The state is expected to issue licenses for 3 to 5 dispensaries by April.
