HARTFORD--A small group of high school boys is putting Hartford in the national spotlight this week as they try to make history by rowing toward a national championship.

For the second time in its more than 20 year history, Riverfront Recapture’s Community Rowing Program is sending a junior’s team to the U.S. Rowing Youth National Championship.

Since last year, George Fiske, Brian McCauley, Will Parsons, Barrett Shea and Jonathan Dumeer have been working together to improve their speed and strength on the water.

Coach Chris Hayes tells Fox CT that after a few disappointing finishes in the past, this team started the season much stronger. “Work ethic. Their work ethic has been incredible,” says Hayes.

The team will head to Sarasota, Florida Thursday. The competition kicks off Friday and will last through Sunday. Riverfront will compete against other teams composed of high school students.
