Al and Laurie talk with Justin Elicker, the Democrat who finished second in the mayoral primary in New Haven but will run against Toni Harp as an independent candidate in the November general election.

Below is some information about Elicker from Hartford Courant reports.

Justin Elicker

Elicker, a 38-year-old environmental consultant, is a former foreign service officer for the U.S. State Department in Taiwan and Hong Kong, and he is fluent in both Cantonese and Spanish. A New Canaan native, he has worked as a teacher in elementary and high schools. He holds two master’s degrees from Yale, including an M.B.A.

While Elicker ranks third in money raised behind Harp and Fernandez, he notes that nearly 80 percent of his contributions have come from New Haven residents — the highest percentage of any candidate. Elicker has collected $171,000, while Carolina is last among the four candidates at $43,000.

A two-term member of the board of aldermen, Elicker has been heavily involved in issues in the city for the past four years. He said he has worked to keep property taxes from rising even higher.
