TORRINGTON -- A serious crash shut down South Main Street in Torrington late Monday morning.

Police said that they responded to a crash on South Main Street near Beecher Street.

The car had struck a utility pole and rolled over.

Police said Shelby Trella of Torrington was extricated from the car and taken by Lifestar to Hartford Hospital to be treated for life threatening injuries.

"Trella has extensive lower extremity injuries at this time and that is all we know," police said. The Torrington Accident Investigation Team is handling the crash. We ask that anyone having information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Torrington Police Department at 860-489-2090."

South Main Street was closed from Palmer Bridge Street to Bogue Road for a few hours.
