COLCHESTER -- A Connecticut town has been hit with a curveball.
The Colchester Little League and the Lion’s club are both working with the town’s police department to try to figure out who is responsible for recent crime.
The Little League President Chris Ferrante said $2500 worth of field equipment was stolen from the press box at the field located on Old Hebron Road.
“It doesn't look like the press box was broken into, so whoever took it had a key or it was left open accidentally,” he said.
Ferrante said the league does not want to press charges. They just want the person who stole the items to bring them back, especially the scoreboard controller, because without it, the board can’t be used.
The town’s little league aren't the only ones striking out. The Colchester Lions Club building and trailer was vandalized this week at Halls Hill Road.
“All about drugs, with some very inappropriate pictures. On the side of the trailer it was about Hitler and on the side of the building it was 'F Colchester,'” Club President Michele Wyatt said. "It literally brought me to tears."
The damage comes at a hefty cost.
“The trailer is aluminum and we’ve been pricing out the paint just to paint over it and it is very pricey,” Wyatt said. “This is the money that would be used back into the community.”
Wyatt said the Lions Club wasn’t singled out. Spray paint was left on town signs, streets and even property of local residents.
The club is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the damage to the town.
“I`m just speechless,” Wyatt said. “I just hope that they really regret what they did.”
Colchester Police are investigating both incidents and ask that anybody with information contact them.
