CAPE ANN, Mass.–The Coast Guard says the FBI has taken over the investigation into the death of a woman who fell off a cruise ship.
WFXT reported on Saturday morning the FBI was now handling the investigation.
The cruise ship was about 10 miles off the shore of Cape Ann.
The Coast Guard got the call about the passenger going overboard on the Seabourn Quest at 7 p.m. Several crews were deployed on the water and in the air to try and locate the victim.
Around 8:30 p.m. her body was found by the Rockport Harbormaster, which had emergency personnel aboard.
“We searched with multiple assets and with partner agencies by sea and air for the woman,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Stephen Leavitt, a watchstander at Sector Boston’s command center.
The cruise ship’s home port is the Bahamas, but the ship left Boston on Friday bound for Bar Harbor, Maine.
