Man arrested in Willimantic in Massachusetts homicide investigation: US Marshals

George-Maldonado is also facing domestic violence charges out of Puerto Rico, a release said.

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — A man was arrested in Willimantic Thursday in connection to a homicide investigation in Massachusetts, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a release.

Lee George-Maldonado, 28, of Puerto Rico, is facing charges in Massachusetts of murder, carrying a firearm without a license, attempt to commit a crime, kidnapping with a firearm and two counts of attempted assault and battery with a firearm.

George-Maldonado is also facing charges out of Puerto Rico related to domestic violence, the release said.

According to the release, a fatal shooting on Bank Street in Fall River, Mass., on Dec. 23, 2023, left Juan Castro, 44, dead outside of his residence.

Following an investigation into the shooting, the town's police department obtained an arrest warrant for George-Maldonado on May 17, the U.S. Marshals Service said, adding that they were requested to assist in the arrest.

He was found by U.S. Marshals and Willimantic police early Thursday morning at a home on Taylor Court in Willimantic where he had been hiding, according to the release.

George-Maldonado was brought into custody by the Connecticut U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force, Willimantic SWAT team and the department's detectives' division. 

According to Willimantic police, George-Maldonado was held on a $2 million bond and was expected to appear in court in Danielson on Thursday. In Connecticut, he is facing the charge of fugitive from justice arrest without warrant.

He is currently being held prior to his extradition to Massachusetts to face his charges out of the state, the U.S. Marshals Service said.
