Woman dies in Chaplin car crash, according to state police

Connecticut State Police Troop D responded to a crash on Willimantic Road in Chaplin, and a fatality was reported.

CHAPLIN, Conn. — A 79-year-old woman died in a two-car crash in the town of Chaplin Saturday morning on Route 6, in the area of 238 Willimantic Road, state police said. 

State police identified the victim as Beverly Elwood of Storrs, a passenger in a 2020 Nissan Murano that was involved in the crash.

The driver of the Nissan Murano sustained minor injuries, state police said.

Part of Route 6 in Chaplin was shut down as police investigated the serious crash. As of late Saturday afternoon, the road was reopened. 

The crash occurred when the Nissan Murano crossed into the westbound lane on Route 6 and collided with a 2008 Nissan Maxima, state police said. 

The driver and passenger of the Nissan Maxima both sustained minor injuries, according to state police.

Connecticut State Police Troop D responded to the crash Saturday morning and reported serious injuries.
