Bradley Int'l Airport ready for spring break rush

The airport is preparing to welcome more than 125,000 travelers from April 3 to April 14.

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. — With spring break approaching for many school districts in the greater Hartford area, thousands of families are preparing to fly out of Bradley International Airport.

“Get here early and have fun!” said Morgan Embry, a mom traveling to Florida with her kids.

The airport is getting ready to welcome more than 125,000 travelers from April 3 to April 14, and officials are urging flyers to pack extra time and patience.

“This is the time of year when kids are out of school and families like to go to warmer destinations and just spend time together and relax,” said Brian Spyros, Connecticut Airport Authority information officer.

Some of the most popular destinations this year from Bradley include Orlando, Tampa, Baltimore, Charlotte, and Atlanta, with travel volumes getting closer to pre-pandemic levels.

"It’s picking up. A lot of people are traveling. We have a lot of airlines here at Bradley, including more than 40 non-stop destinations so people are taking advantage of that," Spryos said.

Travelers will see the biggest crowds first thing in the morning from 4-7 a.m. with officials recommending flyers make a plan before arriving at the airport.

“This time of year, we have a lot of people traveling with children and there’s things you can and can’t bring through the TSA security checkpoint, so people should really be familiarizing themselves with those items, so they can pack appropriately and can get through in an easy way,” Spyros said.

Officials also advise travelers to plan for parking, as lots will fill up fast. Flyers can check online to see how many open spaces are left in the garage and if it is an option, consider getting dropped off at the airport by a friend or ride-share service.
