Scorching temperatures bring kids to splash pads and adults to ice cream shops in West Hartford

Wolcott Park was packed with kids having fun at the playground and splash pad.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — It was a scorcher outside on Monday and the heat had many people cooling off indoors, but others made the most of it outside.

Wolcott Park was packed with kids having fun at the playground and splash pad.

"It's hot!" said Gina Espinoza of Avon.

Espinoza hid in the shade on a blanket as she watched her preschoolers frolic in the water in their bathing suits.

She is thankful for towns that have splash pads, so she and her kids can enjoy the weather without having to trek far away to a beach.

"We can’t complain. There’s other places that have worse weather, so I’ll take the heat for a couple days no problem," added Espinoza.

While experts recommended people to stay indoors with the air conditioning on, construction workers had no choice but to bask in the heat.

The temperatures also did not stop golfers at the Rockledge Golf Club from squeezing in some tee time.

"It was not bad for a while but then on the back 9, it started to get to my head a little bit," said Steven Williams of Bristol.

Chris Merrow shared his wife's secret on how to make your own cold pack.

"You wet them, you stick them in here and you stick them in the freezer," said Merrow of West Hartford.

In Downtown West Hartford, ice cream shops were a must-visit for locals and tourists.

"Hydrating myself, water ... ice cream!" said Milagros Rosario of Hartford.

"Eating ice cream! having fun and enjoying the weather," said Luis Mendez of Hartford.
