Storm leaves behind damage in South Windsor

On Benjamin Way, one homeowner had several trees fall in his front and backyards, including one on his deck he had been standing on just moments before.

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. — Aggressive winds during Tuesday evening's storm took down trees in South Windsor. On Benjamin Way, one homeowner had several trees fall in his front and backyards, including one on his deck he had been standing on just moments before.

"It happened so quick. I was going out on the back deck taking some plants in, the wind was picking up, and I happened to come back in the house. About 30 seconds later, a tree started dropping and it was pretty quick, it came and went pretty quickly," said Guy Monteforte.

While it happened quickly, he said it made for chaotic moments when the storm was moving through.

"It was coming in so quick, so we took cover and went downstairs just in case it was a tornado but fortunately we're all good, that's the main thing," he said.

Several large trees all fell in the same direction in a row in his backyard. Monteforte said he did not hear them hit the ground because of how loud the wind was at the time.

"We really couldn't tell at first when it was raining so hard and with the wind but after it calmed down, we realized the scope of the damage back there," said Monteforte.

A large tree also fell across Miller Road in South Windsor, and several homes in the area had fallen trees and branches on their lawns. Many homeowners left with work to do.

"I'm glad it's over, now the cleanup begins," said Monteforte.
