WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — It only happens once a year, each November AJ Masthay, the owner and artist behind Masthay Studios holds his “Open Studio”.
Masthay, originally from Southington and a UHart art school grad, has made a name for himself in the niche world of “Gig Art” – he is the steady hand behind so many of the concert posters that you see.
“I’ve kind of combined my love of live music with art and printmaking," said Masthay from his Park Road studio.
Aside from his gig art which features bands like The Grateful Dead, The Foo Fighters, and Black Sabbath, Masthay will also showcase his original artwork at Open Studio Day.
He said fans travel from across the country to see his shop in person and buy his works.
“I had one person contact me from Alabama, I had a couple of guys tell me they are coming in from Chicago, I know lots of people coming from New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maine, people make the journey," said Masthay.
Masthay added that because his Open Studio only happens on an annual basis it makes the day more special.
“The best part is I get to put the faces with the names, it’s a nice one-on-one people event," said Masthay.
Masthay Studios Open Studio 2023 happens on Saturday, November 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 252 Park Road in West Hartford. To learn more, click here.
