From a run at the beach to an International celebration in Putnam – here's what's happening in Connecticut this weekend!

CONNECTICUT, USA — It'll be a nice weekend to get out and explore some Earth Day celebrations and events across the state! 

The town of Chester is going all out in honor of Earth Day (which is Monday) and shutting down its main street to vehicles to throw their celebration! This annual event offers a variety of engaging activities and programming the whole family can enjoy. Activities will include interactive workshops, hands-on conservation projects, talks with local environmental advocates, live music, and so much more! The event will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more here! 

Hop right into a flavorful festival happening in Hartford on Saturday! The 2024 Connecticut Beer Fest will take place at the Connecticut Convention Center and feature some of the best beer the state offers. Attendees can enjoy the largest selection of Connecticut craft beer with tastings from all around the state, live music, food, local vendors, and more. Attendees must be 21 years old and up, and children are prohibited. Doors open to general admission at 1 p.m. Learn more here.

While football season is far off, that doesn't mean you can't start to get your head in the game! Enjoy a fun and exciting day on Sunday in Storrs at the UConn campus as the school's football team hosts their Spring Fan Fest! There will be a UConn Athletics Surplus Sale with discounted clothes and a tailgate to kick off the festivities. Food trucks, inflatable lawn games, photo booths, and more will be there as well. Guests can also meet and greet with the players, have a chance to watch them practice, and have an opportunity to take a picture with the 2023 and 2024 NCAA men's Basketball National Championship trophies. On your mark, get set, and run down to the Rocky Neck Runfest this Sunday! The event combines three different race opportunities in one incredible venue along the beach and trails of Rocky Neck State Park! Enjoy the beauty of the area, including the Bride Brook salt marsh and the historic stone Ellie Mitchell Pavilion and the Four Mile River tidal area. If you can't afford to travel around the world in 80 days, head to Putnam this weekend for their International Day Celebration! Travel around the globe and learn about other countries and cultures through food, music, crafts, demonstrations, entertainment, and more. This free, family-friendly event will happen from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The first 1,000 people to arrive will get a commemorative passport. Learn more about the event here.

To help celebrate Earth Day, head to Grace Farms in New Canaan for its annual Earth Day celebration! Head outside to take part in family-friendly activities on the farm led by Horticulture Director Kimberly Kelly, Master Gardener Lauren Elliott, Grace Farm's educators, and more. This weekend, Mystic Seaport will open up tours of the Amistad ship. Take a visit to the seaport from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and learn from their educational team about the ship's history and, more importantly, of the Africans who fought back against their captures during a time when the slave trade was illegal. Discovering Amistad is a program that aims to connect people of all ages with the Amistad story, motivating them to act and work to help change systemic racism and ensure human rights for all.
