Things to do in Connecticut this weekend, April 26-28

Land, sea, air, and even space! These are the things happening around Connecticut this weekend.

CONNECTICUT, USA — It'll be a wonderful spring weekend weather-wise (aside from some Sunday morning showers), so get out and about and see what's happening around Connecticut! 

The Connecticut Spring Boat Show in Essex will be happening Friday through Sunday! Join dozens of local marina vendors as they show the best new or pre-owned boats Connecticut has to offer. The whole event is to raise money for a good cause. The show will include sailing lessons, local vendors, specialty foods, and live music! Half of the ticket proceeds will benefit Sails Up 4 Cancer, a non-profit that funds preventative care for all types of cancers. Learn more about the event here.

If you're less about the sea and more about land-based activities, head to North Haven for the Connecticut Sheep, Wool & Fiber Festival! This festival is over 100 years old and is a great agricultural and educational experience for attendees. Visit over 75 vendors as they sell all types of fiber, yarn, and handmade goods. The event will also feature demonstrations and classes where you can learn about sheep farming and different fiber art techniques, including how to shear sheep. Learn more about the festival here

Take your aspirations for weekend fun even higher into the sky and space at the New England Air Museum's Space Expo happening Saturday in Windsor Locks! This special event is about space exploration and features guest speakers in the aerospace industry, fun activities for kids, and more! Skating for a good cause? The Sk8 To Elimin8 Cancer Figure Skating Ice Show is coming to Simsbury on Saturday. Happening at the International Skating Center of Connecticut, the event will feature Olympic, world, and national champion figure skaters. It'll be an event to remember, benefiting the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation and the Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Join the Connecticut Storytelling Center in New London on Friday and Saturday for the 43rd Annual Connecticut Storytelling Festival & Conference! It's a weekend of enchantment as they explore the power of storytelling to inspire and unite the community. There will be performances of personal narratives, folk traditions, and historical portrayals, as well as hands-on workshops! Learn more about this festival and purchase tickets here.

Mansfield is holding its annual Tag Sale Trail as part of the town's Earth Day Celebration on Saturday! Pick up a map at the Mansfield Community Center beginning at 8 a.m. and follow the tag sale locations, which will be open until 1 p.m. all around the town! There will also be a number of vendors set up inside the community center. This event is free to attend! Learn more here.

"Pop" on board at the Essex Steam Train & Riverboard museum this weekend and next for an adventure with Thomas the Tank Engine! The Day Out with Thomas "Bubble Tour" will have guests enjoying fun-filled, family-friendly activities all day long with a 25-minute ride where you can meet Thomas. You can also meet Sir Topham Hatt, the railway controller on the Island of Sodor, and Percy the Small Green Engine! Included with the ticket is access to unlimited carnival rides, music, and a magic show! Learn more about the event which runs 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. here.
