Things happening in Connecticut this weekend, April 5-7

From beer and sheep festivals to a competitive race in Middletown, here's what's going on in Connecticut this weekend!

CONNECTICUT, USA — It's the first weekend in April, and the weather doesn't look too bad!

If you're looking for something to do this weekend with friends and family, here are some things to check out:

April marks National Poetry Month, and the American Mural Project is celebrating with a brand-new exhibit highlighting poetry selections written about the organization's mural. Those who attend will have the chance to write their own poems and display them. The American Mural Project is in Winsted and features the largest indoor collaborative artwork mural in the world! Learn more about the event and the exhibit, which opens Friday, here.

Head to Cheshire on Sunday for the Greenhouse Beer Festival at Michael's Greenhouse! This event is hosted at one of the state's largest greenhouses and is a fun-filled day for all beer enthusiasts! Sample craft beer, enjoy live bluegrass music and local food, and admire the beautiful plants that are in bloom! All proceeds from the event will benefit three local non-profits. The festival runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Learn more here.

At the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington this weekend, learn how to shear sheep and meet other local fiber artists and vendors demonstrating all things wool at their "From Sheep to Shawl" event! This festival will be held on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and there will be free hayrides, food, vendors, and other craft activities. Learn more about the event and book tickets here.

Flip, jump, an dive into Cirque du Soleil BAZZAR this weekend! The show begins this weekend and runs until May on Wednesdays and Sundays. It's a special weekend at Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium as they "seal-a-brate" Sono, a harbor seal pup celebrating their first birthday! The celebration is happening across the weekend and will feature things for kids and families to participate in like crafting a birthday hat, getting faces painted, signing a jumbo birthday card for Sono, and getting a commemorative party favor! Learn more about the event here.

This weekend, the Cars and Coffee meet up at the Apple Barrel Farm Market, which is happening at Lyman Orchards! From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., head to the market for coffee and delicious donuts while attending a free car show! The New England Supercar Club hosts the event. Learn more about the event here.

Maybe you aren't as fast as a supercar, but take the time to jog through the idyllic campus of Wesleyan University in Middletown during the Middletown 10K and 5K! Both races will loop around campus, and the 10K is a USATF-CT State Championship race, meaning it will be an exciting and competitive race finish! All finishers will get a high-quality short-sleeve shirt and enjoy a post-race party in Union Green. The event will run from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. Learn more here.
