NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Every four years Avery’s Beverages owner Rob Metz gets his machines in motion to make “Election Sodas”.
Just like in 2020, “Biden Berry” - a mixed berry flavor - and “Trump Tonic” - a sour grape flavor - are back on the shelves at the century old New Britain store.
This year, Metz has also added a new variety to the mix; “None of the Above”.
“One of our customers suggested a None of the Above flavor and it seems like None of the Above will be the most popular candidate this year,” he said.
"None of the Above Soda" sports a label with cartoons of both Biden and Trump X-ed out and it’s a citrus flavor that combines orange, grapefruit, and lemon.
“It’s going to be a little tart,” Metz said.
The soda pop maker noted that this it is now the fifth time that Avery’s has participated in making its Election Sodas.
“We run a straw poll -- which candidates get the most sales -- and four out of five elections we’ve predicted correctly,” he said.
The only election that the “straw poll” didn’t properly predict was in 2020 when more Trump sodas were sold but Biden won the election.
After making a run of the "None of the Above" sodas in his bottling machine from the 1950s, Metz said: “We encourage people to vote early and vote often.”
“We want everyone to come together, have a good time, and enjoy a soda,” he said with a laugh.
